Calling all storytellers: Will you use your voice to end hunger? WFP and the One Campaign are excited to announce the launch of their online course designed to train passionate volunteers into powerful spokespersons in the fight against hunger.
WASHINGTON -- One in seven people in the world are hungry. From the current crisis in the Horn of Africa to quieter ravages of long-term food insecurity, you’ve likely seen the story of hunger.
In West Africa, a Griot is a storyteller and an agent of cultural change. Echoing this tradition, WFP and the One Campaign are excited to announce the launch of Growing Solutions to Hunger: The Hunger and Agriculture Griots Project, an online course designed to train passionate volunteers into powerful spokespersons in the fight against hunger.
Here’s your opportunity to dig deeper into the issues so you can engage your community – and change the story of hunger.
WFP and One believe that education is the first step of advocacy. As experts on hunger and agriculture, we’ve teamed up to create an innovative and free course that challenges you to start creating change where you already are – online. Housed on Blackboard Inc.’s online learning platform, this six-week, in-depth course will explore the roots of global hunger and the promise of sustainable agriculture through interactive and engaging materials. Skill-building tutorials built by WFP and One policy professionals will encourage you to put into action what you’ve learned each week. You’ll hone your campaigning skills as you explore effective ways you can create change.
What you’ll do:
- Successfully complete a six-week, intensive online education course
- Be a part of a live campaign to end hunger
- Organize your own action project to educate and mobilize your peers
- Learn to write Letters to the Editor and to use new media tools for advocacy
- Learn how to advocate intelligently for agriculture as a solution to hunger
Are you interested in ending global hunger, comfortable learning and using new technology, and able to commit 6-8 hours for 6 weeks? WFP and One will support you every step of the way so that by the end of the course you’re ready to take what you’ve learned offline and inspire your community.
The course will start on October 7, 2011 and end on November 14, 2011. You can find the application form HERE. Completed forms should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by 7 October 2011 at 2 p.m. EST.
Ready to become a Griot? We’re excited for you to join our global community of activists committed to changing the story of hunger.
