Deputy Executive Directors


SHEILA SISULU

Sheila Sisulu became Deputy Executive Director for Hunger Solutions in the Office of the Executive Director of the World Food Programme in January 2008.

Prior to this appointment, Ms. Sisulu served as WFP’s Deputy Executive Director for Policy and External Affairs Department from 2003.

Before joining WFP, Ms. Sisulu was South Africa’s Ambassador to the United States. Her diplomatic career began in 1997 as Consul General in New York and as Ambassador to Washington two years later.

AMIR MAHMOUD ABDULLA

Amir Mahmoud Abdulla became Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the World Food Programme in March 2009.

Before assuming his current post, Mr. Abdulla was WFP’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from January 2008.

Mr. Abdulla’s career at WFP began as a logistics officer in 1991. He then went on to serve in a variety of field and headquarters posts.  Prior to joining WFP, he was a Branch Manager for Juba and Port Sudan for shipping and forwarding company Transintra, and Assistant Area Manager for engineering company, Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor, in the Sudan.  Mr. Abdulla also taught at the American School & Comboni College in Khartoum. GINA CASAR

Gina Casar became Deputy Executive Director for Resource Management and Accountability of the World Food Programme in April 2009.

Ms. Casar brings to WFP broad management experience, and is respected as one of the world’s leading finance professionals. Prior to joining WFP, Ms. Casar served as the Treasurer of Mexico, a position she held since 2006.

Before becoming Treasurer of Mexico, Ms. Casar served as WFP’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2004-2006, and prior to joining WFP in 2004, she served as CFO of the Banco Nacional de Servicios Fincieros (Bansefi) from 2001. Download full bio

  

STAFFAN DE MISTURA

Staffan de Mistura became Deputy Executive Director for External Relations of the World Food Programme in July 2009.

Mr. de Mistura previously served in Iraq as the Secretary-General’s Special Representative. Under Mr. de Mistura’s leadership, his team of 1,000 staff helped oversee successful elections, as well as reconstruction, development and humanitarian assistance.

During his 38-year career in the UN, Mr. de Mistura’s posts also include that of Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Iraq, Personal Representative of the Secretary-General for Southern Lebanon, and Director of the UN Information Center in Rome. He has also served in Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Somalia, and Tirana. Download full bio
