PepsiCo is a diverse company and one whose many interests are a natural fit with WFP. PepsiCo and WFP have worked together since 2007, leveraging their expertise and global presence to address hunger around the world.
In conjunction with the PepsiCo Foundation and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), WFP launched a ground-breaking public-private partnership to promote long-term nutritional and economic security in Ethiopia. The project will take advantage of the agricultural expertise of PepsiCo and USAID to assist smallholder chickpea farmers to dramatically increase chickpea production, strengthen agricultural value chains and expand domestic and export markets. In turn, WFP will use its food expertise, with the support of the PepsiCo Foundation, to develop a locally sourced, nutrient-rich, ready-to-use supplementary food (RUSF) to combat malnutrition in children under five. Initially the RUSF will be supplied to nearly 40,000 children in Ethiopia, with a longer-term goal of expanding the project to prevent malnutrition across the Horn of Africa.
Furthermore, PepsiCo Foundation also supports a project aimed at enhancing WFP's logistical ability to deliver food and relief to the most vulnerable communities around the globe.
WFP's partnership with the PepsiCo company extends to its family of brands worldwide:
WFP is engaging in a customer-facing initiative with Quaker in the Netherlands that has provided over 1 million school meals in Benin to date.
WFP is also also partnering with Lay’s in Saudi Arabia on an online campaign that aims to raise funds in support of our emergency operations in the Sahel.
