NGOs


WFP works with more than 2,800 NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) in carrying out its activities across the globe.

NGOs provide a variety of different services within these partnerships, generally specified in a field level agreement signed by WFP and the NGO to suit the operation in question:

  • NGOs may handle the storage, transportation and distribution of food when the national government is unable to;
  • NGOs can assist in monitoring and assessing the risks of hunger in certain regions;
  • NGOs may provide technical expertise to WFP in a number of areas;
  • an NGO’s own small scale project may be incorporated into wider WFP food aid programmes.

In addition to the Annual Report and “How to work with WFP” handbook, both of which can be found in the right hand column of this page, WFP publishes a newsletter – “The NGO Update” – three times a year, which keeps our partners informed on developments at WFP.
