DFID Assesses Effectiveness Of Aid Efforts

The UK’s decision to protect its aid budget, recommitting to spend 0.7 percent of GNI on overseas aid from 2013, represents an important political pledge to development. Nonetheless, these funds will have to be spent wisely and well.

In this regard, DFID has assessed through 3 reviews – all released during March 2011 – the effectiveness of its own efforts, as well as that of its partners.
The key elements DFID is looking for across these reviews are: value for money, impact, results, transparency, accountability and effectiveness on the ground.
