Making Clean Cookstoves Work For Women

We're talking about cook-stoves this week with Erin Patrick from the Women's Refugee Commission who explains some of the ideas behind her organization's Fuel and Firewood Initiatives, and what goes into a successful clean cook-stove project.

Erin Patrick is a Senior Program Officer at the Women’s Refugee Commission in New York. She’s written extensively on human rights and gender-based violence, co-authoring the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs book No Refuge: The Challenge of Internal Displacement (2003).

Since researching and writing the Women’s Refugee Commission’s groundbreaking report Beyond Firewood: Fuel Alternatives and Protection Strategies for Displaced Women and Girls in 2005, Erin has been coordinating the Fuel and Firewood Initiative.

Erin is currently piloting this project in Darfur, Ethiopia and Thailand.
