Natives of Mali, Mr. Amadou Bagayako and Ms. Mariam Doumbia, better known as Amadou & Mariam are a Grammy Award nominated couple. The duo sold couple has sold eight albums, including hit singles such as, “Sabali,” which was ranked 15 on Pitchfork’s Top 100 Best Tracks of 2008. They were awarded the French Victoire de la Musique prize for best World Music album of the year, won two BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music, recorded the official anthem for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and were nominated for the “Best Contemporary World Music Album” at the 52nd ceremony of the Grammy Awards.

Since being appointed as Ambassadors in 2011, the couple perform benefit concerts in support of WFP, including the 2007 “Together Against Hunger” concert and the 2008 Paris-Bamako music festival. In 2011, they conducted a field visit to Haiti where they visited WFP projects and met pregnant and nursing women and their children who received nutrition products. In 2006, they formalized a partnership with WFP to provide school feeding in two specialized institutes for blind or visually impaired children in Bamako and Gao, Mali. They also very actively promote WFP on social and digital media. The duo recently performed at WFP's Annual World Leaders Dinner at the 2016 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
