Address to Regional Ministerial Consultation on Maternal and Child Nutrition in Asia - New Delhi, India

Deputy Executive Director Sheila Sisulu

This meeting gives us an extraordinary opportunity to put into action integrated and long-term measures to improve the lives of those living in the Asia-Pacific region. We are all gathered here to tackle one of the fundamental problems on the continent: the fact that in spite of amazing economic and social progress during the past few decades, there are still millions of human beings suffering from hunger and malnutrition. While Asia has made major gains in terms of poverty alleviation, national growth and agricultural production, the Asia-Pacific region is still home to more than 505 million people who do not get enough food to meet the daily needs for nutritional well-being.
