As Arab Spring Roils, Hunger Emerges

The Arab Spring was supposed to bring democracy, peace and prosperity. (..) In Libya, the fighting between government and opposition forces has severely harmed the supply of food and medication, particularly to the Western Mountain Region which is entirely dependant on outside supplies, said Reem Nada, a Cairo-based public information officer for the World Food Program. Libya is almost entirely dependent on food imports but the country’s ports have been shuttered for months.
