Community Schools: Narrowing illiteracy

“Enrolment in the education sector at grades one to seven increased by 108 per cent from 1.6 million pupils in 2000 to the current 3.3 million in 2011,” President Rupiah Banda observed this during the eve of Africa Freedom Day this year under the theme ‘Accelerating Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development’.(..)WFP Zambia Deputy Country Director Purnima Kashyap said with the government support, the programme will translate into Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSF). “This reflects the commitment of the government to support its vulnerable population by reducing hunger and promoting human development,” Dr. Kashyap believes.
