About this Operation

Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country, with  a population of 237 million. Itranks 108th of 169 countries in the 2010 human development index. Following remarkable socio-economic and political progress since the return to democracy in 1998, Indonesia is now a lower-middle-income country, a G20 member, the largest economy of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and one of Asia’s most decentralized democracies.

Indonesia has made significant strides in reducing poverty and strengthening democracy since the economic crisis and political transformation of 1997-1998. Since 2004, the poverty headcount has fallen from 16.7% to 14.15 % in 2009 .
