Results from the government-led Belg/Gu needs assessment undertaken in June to July 2009 are still to be released, though expected to reflect at least the projected needs of 6.2 million people presented to donors in July 2009. The government and partners will also update the Humanitarian Requirements document for 2009 to reflect the additional needs.

According to the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), a critical nutritional situation in West Harerghe zone requires an immediate start of the fifth round of relief distributions. This is in line with the decision taken by the Food Management Task Force on 12 August. CRS/Joint Emergency Operation will start dispatching food to all distribution centres from 17 August to cover the requirements of 2.3 million people. For this round, approximately 2.8 million beneficiaries will be covered by The Disaster Risk Management Food Security Sector/WFP distributions in priority one and two areas.
