Group warns vs. rising number of evacuees

The hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao are likely to increase in number amid continued fighting between government forces and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the World Food Programme (WFP) warned Tuesday. Stephen Anderson, the WFP Country Director for the Philippines, noted that the renewed offensives between the government forces and the MILF, particularly in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, could not facilitate the return of IDPs.
