Guidance Note on Integrating Food and Nutrition in National HIV Strategies and Programmes

This UNAIDS Guidance Note on Food and Nutrition provides simple, concise and practical guidance on how to integrate food and nutrition into national HIV strategies and programmes. Its development was led by World Food Programme (WFP) and includes recommendations on nutrition approved by World Health Organization’s (WHO) Guidelines Review Committee, as well as input from WHO staff. References and links to full guidelines are provided in the last section of the Guidance Note.

The Guidance Note discusses a comprehensive set of programmatic considerations around the integration of food and nutrition in HIV treatment, care and support. These include: which populations should be targeted; main activities to be carried out; data requirements; monitoring & evaluation indicators; gender, human rights and equity issues; as well as linkages with other interventions and key implementing partners.

This forms part of a UNAIDS resource kit for countries to use when developing Global Fund concept notes.
