Iraq Situation Report #17, 21 January 2015

Highlights

 WFP has regained access to the Zumar sub-district of Duhok, previously under the control of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces recently gained control of the area allowing much needed humanitarian assistance to reach the affected populations who received WFP food assistance in the form of family food parcels.

 Timely contributions from Canada and Australia to WFP Iraq’s Emergency Operation of US$8.5 million and US$4.7 million respectively will be used to provide food vouchers and Immediate Response Rations.

 WFP is continuing to make progress in extending its voucher programme. In partnership with Agence d'Aide à la Coopération Technique Et au Développement (ACTED), distribution began in Duhok city during the reporting period, targeting approximately 55,000 displaced people.
