Jessica Watson, round-the-world yachtswoman - Youth Representative

Jessica Watson became the youngest person to sail around the world alone at the age of 16.

Young Australian of the Year, Jessica Watson  was born in 1993 at the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.  At eleven years of age, Jessica Watson had a dream to sail solo around the world, non-stop and unassisted. On 15 May 2010, after seven months at sea , Jessica sailed her yacht ‘Ella’s Pink Lady’ into Sydney Harbour and was greeted by 1,600 boats and 100,000 fans.  At age 16,  Jessica’s dream had become a reality.

Jessica is the newest recruit to the WFP team fighting hunger worldwide.  As Youth Representative Jessica will focus on child hunger and inspire both new generations  and opinion makers as she raises awareness and funds for WFP’s school feeding programmes.

“I want children in less fortunate communities and countries to be able to achieve their dream too , ” said Jessica.

Jessica, who has a large following on Facebook and Twitter will help engage her friends and fans to highlight WFP’s work through her own social media channels and through WFP’s innovative fundraising community platform, WeFeedback
