Loan scheme to spur economy in the north

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) on Monday announced a special loan scheme, “The Awakening North”, with seed capital of Sri Lankan Rs.3,000 million for the resumption of economic activities, including agriculture, livestock rearing, fisheries, and micro and small enterprises, in the Northern province. (..) In another development, the United Nations humanitarian wing said it had observed a significant improvement in access to camps for the war displaced and that the U.N. World Food Programme had delivered nearly 880 metric tonnes of food to camps in Vavuniya.
