Poor Indian Monsoon Triggers Rice Price Fears

Rice importers in countries from the Philippines to Iran and South Africa are watching the market for fear that a poor monsoon in India, the world’s second largest producer, could push prices higher.
“The monsoon was seriously delayed and rice is the most seriously affected crop,” said Robert Zeigler, director of the International Rice Research Institute in Los Baños, the Philippines.
