Six months after a devastating earthquake hit Haiti, the impoverished Caribbean nation is struggling to recover. (..) The United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP) has phased out general distributions of food. (..)"Prepositioning is important because the key problem when Haiti is hit by torrential rains is that many key roads are blocked by floods or landslides," WFP said. WFP has started a barge service connecting all major Haitian ports and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. "If roads become impassable supplies can still be moved around the country," it said.
