Cote D"ivoire held a presidential elections on 31 October 2010; however, because of a lack of a majority winner, a runoff was held on November 28th.  Due to escalating political and social pressure linked to the results of the runoff, the security situation in the country has deteriorated substantially, with frequent violent clashes between supporters of both candidates. Unitl now no consensus on the presidency has been reached, with both presidential candidates swearing themselves in as President of Cote d'Ivoire on 4 December 2010.

The political instability and the outbreak of violence have resulted in displacement of populations, both internally and to the neighboring countries, especially Liberia.
