WFP is adapting its food assistance strategy to mitigate the effects of the protracted crisis in Côte d’Ivoire. The country faces an uncertain future after the failure of the 2003 unity government and the stalling of the peace process.
The lack of government presence in the divided northern half of the country and continued troubles in the west have disrupted the supply of food aid and other humanitarian assets. Since the crisis started, transport infrastructure and basic social services have degraded significantly, to the detriment of the most vulnerable strata of the population.
In order to facilitate food deliveries and improve transportation access for the humanitarian community, WFP will undertake the rehabilitation of bridges and unpaved rural roads.
This Special Operation (SO) provides the required support and management structure to strengthen the rehabilitation of unpaved rural roads and bridges in support of Protracted Relief and Recovery Operation (PRRO) Côte d’Ivoire 10672.0, mainly in the regions of Moyen Cavally and Eighteen
Montagnes.
