The year 2009 brought peace and a complex humanitarian challenge as Sri Lanka emerged from a 26-year long conflict where a large number of people were confronted with multiple displacements, particularly from the latter part of 2008. Malnourished, dehydrated, traumatized and yet relieved internally displaced persons (IDP) flocked from the former conflict zone, requiring immediate life saving assistance.Providing hot meals for IDPs at the transit area of Omanthai checkpoint was one of the many priority measures that WFP undertook.
