A South-South agreement was signed in Rome on 26 March which will see Vietnamese experts assist Chad in improving the country’s food security.(..)Jean-Luc Siblot, WFP Country Director in Chad, told MediaGlobal: "The current food security situation in Chad has been worsened by low and erratic rainfall during the 2009–2010 cropping season, followed [by] below average rainfall the year before. It was estimated in 2009 that the cereal deficit would be 35 percent below the five-year average. This has severely affected cereal production and the availability of pasture for livestock in the Sahelian belt of Chad."
