WFP to expand food aid for poorest Yemenis as prices rise

The U.N. food aid agency is planning to provide 1.8 million poor Yemenis with additional food supplies for six months from May in an effort to help them cope with rising prices that are contributing to political tensions in the southern Arabian nation. (..) "The primary cause of the (recent) unrest is political, but food insecurity and poverty are aggravating factors,” Cirri said. “They are referred to more and more by large sections of the population as a reason for discontent. With the rise in food prices, this is really bad news for the stability of the country."
