- WFP has reached 99 percent of people in need of assistance with second-round food distributions of maize, beans, Super Cereal and fortified vegetable oil in all 15 flood-affected districts. Third-round food distributions have started to cater for some 370,000 flood victims, but are experiencing delays due to slow arrival of fortified vegetable oil.
- WFP requires a total of USD 12.4 million to meet a significant increase in needs identified by the recent joint rapid food security assessment, and cover costs of distributing High Energy Biscuits as a first-line response. The number of flood victims in need of life-saving food assistance has risen by nearly 70 percent. Some 616,000 flood victims now require food assistance through July.
- The assessment has also recommended a one-month extension of lean season (MVAC) assistance for the vulnerable households who were rendered food insecure by adverse weather and poor harvest last year. To continue food assistance to this population, WFP requires USD 3.5 million.
- USD 720,000 is also required for emergency logistics support to ensure that some 42,000 people in Nsanje district remain accessible, amidst ongoing risk of a cholera outbreak.
