WFP SOUTH SUDAN SITUATION REPORT #88, 31 JULY 2015

Highlights

  • WFP re-engages in Dablual, southern Unity. After months of inaccessibility due to fighting, WFP was able to deploy a Rapid Response Team to Dablual. More than 30,000 vulnerable people were reached with much needed food and nutrition assistance. The Rapid Response Mission, which was completed this week, were visited by WFP Country Director, Joyce Luma, on 25 July. Skirmishes were reported days after the visit, leading to uncertainty over the future of assistance there.
  • Despite significant challenges, WFP reaches 21 remote sites in July. Through partner and WFP Rapid Response Teams, more than 400,000 vulnerable people were reached with vital food and nutrition assistance in 12 locations in Jonglei, five in Upper Nile and four in Unity.
  • Arrival of WFP South Sudan’s new Deputy Country Director of Operations. This week Mr. Håkan Falkell arrived in Juba to officially assume his role as the DCD of Operations.
