The importance of partnerships – especially with Non-Governmental Organizations – cannot be overstated because it would be impossible for the World Food Programme to operate without its NGO partners. Their support is vital to WFP’s principal goal – to fight hunger.
The number and magnitude of natural disasters in 2005 were a stark reminder that people everywhere are vulnerable to sudden and life-threatening crises. Together with our NGO partners, we faced devastation in almost every corner of the globe: the massive Indian Ocean tsunami, the drought and locust infestation in Africa, the earthquake in Kashmir, the hurricanes that battered Central America and the United
States, and floods that swept across Europe and Asia.
