Feeding Orphans and Encouraging Livelihoods - WFP Burundi Institutional Feeding
WFP Burundi's Institutional Feeding Programme offers much needed food assistance to orphans and plays a vital role in rehabilitating former street children.
At the Busiga Orphanage in Northern Burundi, 71 orphans are able to eat 3 nutritious meals a day. They receive beans, rice, super cereal (corn soya blend), sugar and vegetable oil. In this gallery, several orphans can be seen enjoying a typical lunch of rice and beans mixed with some locally produced vegetables.
At the Centre Giriteka in Ngozi, Burundi, 180 former street children are trained in vocational activities in an effort to help them re-enter society as productive members.
