Abuja, 28 March: The first report of the Cost of Hunger in Africa (COHA) Study that unveils the crushing impact of child undernutrition on the economies of four African countries was launched today in Abuja, Nigeria during a high level event organized on the sidelines of the Seventh Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

As tens of thousands of South Sudanese continue to flee their conflict-torn homeland, the heads of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) travelled to Ethiopia's border region of Gambella from neighboring South Sudan to meet refugees who recently fled the conflict.

ADDIS ABABA – Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and the three food agencies of the United Nations are teaming up to raise awareness of how access to financial services – such as bank accounts, short-term credit, small loans, savings and insurance – can help improve the lives and livelihoods of smallholder farmers and the rural poor.

ADDIS ABABA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today received 1,513 metric tons of rice, valued at US$718,000 (more than 13 million Ethiopian birr), from the Government of Brazil to assist refugees living in various camps in Ethiopia.

ADDIS ABABA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has begun cash distributions to 255,000 vulnerable Ethiopians facing short-term acute food insecurity. The new pilot scheme is supported by funds from the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO).
