Floods in Peten

The water reached up to two meters in several communities of Peten, in Guatemala, last October 2011.

Loss of crops

The loss of basic grains such as maize exceeds 75% of the cultivated area, which was already within days of being harvested.

Many similar shelters were established in which the timely intervention of WFP covered the basic needs of food from homeless families. Here a teenager is preparing tortillas.
