ANTANANARIVO – Children from schools receiving United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) daily meals will compete on Friday in an exhibition match to promote WFP’s Tackle Hunger partnership with the International Rugby Board (IRB).  Coinciding with the African leg of the Rugby World Cup 2015 qualification process, the Webb Ellis Cup – the highest award in world rugby – will be on display during the match as part of a global trophy tour in the build-up to next year’s Rugby World Cup finals in England.

9 October 2013, Rome – As many as 4 million people in rural areas of Madagascar are food insecure following this year’s reduced harvest. Production of rice – the Indian Ocean island’s staple – and maize has been badly hit by erratic weather and a locust invasion. A further9.6 million people are at risk of food insecurity, say two United Nations agencies.

Antananarivo -  The European Union has recently allocated a contribution of around 14 billion Ariary (US$5.96 million) towards the school feeding programme implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Ministry of Education in the southern region of Madagascar. This funding will allow WFP to continue its food assistance, which had been partially scaled back during the 2012/2013 school year due to a funding shortfall.

ANTANANARIVO - The World Food Programme in Madagascar issued an alert today, warning that it has been unable to pre-position sufficient quantities of relief food in critical cyclone-prone zones ahead of the cyclone season due to a lack of donor funding.
