WFP provides approximately 14,000 refugees with food assistance each month.

WFP collaborates closely with UNHCR, the Government of Malawi Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, and the Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS). MRCS is responsible for managing food distribution activities on behalf of UNHCR and WFP. The Government is responsible for overall camp management and administration.

WFP Malawi provides food assistance to refugees at Dzaleka Camp, including the new arrivals at Karonga Transit Shelter (the main entry point for asylum seekers from the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes regions). WFP feeds approximately 14,000 refugees each month.

All refugees receive a monthly food basket consisting of cereal, pulses, vegetable oil, sugar, salt and corn‐soya blend (CSB). This food assistance plays a crucial role in meeting the basic food needs of the refugees and help prevent malnutrition. Furthermore, it facilitates the elimination of food insecurity and negative coping mechanisms.
