Caretakers of severely malnourished children receive food rations from WFP to promote adherence to and completion of the child's treatment. Severely malnourished children are admitted to nutrition rehabilitation units or enrolled in outpatient therapeutic programme centres.
WFP Malawi supports individuals and households affected by HIV/AIDS including orphans, chronically‐ill patients, patients on tuberculosis treatment and mothers enrolled in the prevention of mother‐to‐child transmission programmes.
As part of the community‐based interventions, WFP provides food assistance with operational support from NGOs under the Joint Emergency Food Aid Programme to households caring for chronically‐ill family members and/or households raising orphans and other vulnerable children.
