On the evening of Friday, December 16, Tropical Storm Washi devastated the Northern Mindanao region of the Phillipines, forcing thousands of people from their homes.

Boxes of ''Plumpy Doz', a nutritious ready-to-use food for children, are being stored in the gym of an Evacuation Center in the district of Macasandig in Cagayan de Oro City. This specialised food, aimed specifically at warding off malnutrition, will be given to as many as 15,000 children under 5 years of age.

A little girl eating her WFP biscuits at the evacuation centre in Cagayan de Oro. As part of the initial response to the emergency, WFP delivered enough high-energy biscuits to feed more than 7,800 people here and in the nearby city of Iligan.
