WFP works with NGOs, who distribute monthly rations according to the size of each family. WFP distributes fortified cooking oil and blended food for children as well as maize and beans bought in Uganda.

The emergency operation targets the most vulnerable households. Some of such households are headed by elderly or chronically ill people whose communities are unable to adequately support them in the lean season.

The majority of people that WFP’s 2009 emergency operation reached have this year received support through a Government-WFP joint asset creation programme, introduced to help strengthen livelihoods.

Families share food in order for each one to get their precise portion. Besides relief and livelihood initiatives, WFP has programmes that address chronic hunger, reaching children until they are 18 years of age.
