Rwandan refugees in various refugee settlements in western Uganda will not be allocated land for cultivation (..) Upon arrival at settlement camps, each refugee family or individual is supposed to be allocated 50 by 100 metres of land for setting up shelter and cultivation to supplement the small monthly food rations supplied by the World Food Programme.

Ugandan soldiers have taken their fight against the notorious Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) into the Central African Republic (CAR), the army has confirmed. (..) Earlier this month the World Food Programme said it had provided food aid to 60,000 people fleeing LRA attacks this year.

The U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) said on Tuesday it was delivering food aid to more than a million people in northern Uganda following failed rains. More than 2 million people were driven from their homes in the north by more than two decades of civil war.

Uganda has banned the export of bananas, corn and cereals to regional markets in a bid to ease the worsening food shortage in the country caused by a long drought early this year (..). months of drought early this year triggered massive crop failures across the country and up to 2 million people are in need of relief aid, according to the U.N. The World Food Programme (WFP) has committed US$2 million (UShs4 billion) to strengthening agricultural marketing systems in Uganda.
Under their new programme 'Purchase for Progress,' WFP aims at connecting farmers to sustainable markets to enable them sell their food to large-scale buyers like WFP. The programme, to start in September, will begin from Kapchorwa district in eastern Uganda and then roll out to Masindi and Hoima in western Uganda. The programme will also be carried out in Teso, Lango, Acholi, and Karamoja sub-regions.

The UK yesterday announced a donation of sh20b to the World Food Programme (WFP) to support emergency operations in Karamoja. (..) WFP country director Stanlake Samkange said the money would sustain the emergency operations for only another month.
