World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

SANA’A – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and its partners have reached almost 100,000 displaced Yemenis with food assistance in four northern governorates since August when a new round of fighting erupted between government troops and rebel forces.

The World Food Programme has announced that it was expanding its operation in Yemen to feed thousands more Somali refugees fleeing the conflict in their country.

FAO has called for a renewed commitment to guarantee the right to food for the world's hundreds of millions of hungry people.

WFP has approved a new operation to provide food assistance to 36,000 people displaced by the conflict in Sa’ada Governorate in north-western Yemen.

Yemen has received a pesticide donation from Mauritania to combat the worst locust outbreak in nearly 15 years. The donated chemicals were transported by air to Yemen in a joint operation between the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and WFP.

WFP announces that improved security will allow food assistance to reach many more people in Yemen’s Sa’adah governorate, where conflict has displaced thousands.

WFP will start tomorrow to distribute food assistance to some 20,000 people displaced by heavy fighting around the governorate of Saada in north-western Yemen.
