WFP has approved a new operation to provide food assistance to 36,000 people displaced by the conflict in Sa’ada Governorate in north-western Yemen.

Yemen has received a pesticide donation from Mauritania to combat the worst locust outbreak in nearly 15 years. The donated chemicals were transported by air to Yemen in a joint operation between the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and WFP.

WFP will start tomorrow to distribute food assistance to some 20,000 people displaced by heavy fighting around the governorate of Saada in north-western Yemen.

The Government of Yemen and WFP represented by Mohamed El-Kouhene sign a Country Programme Action Plan for the period 2007-2011. The Programme will benefit one million Yemenis by helping to reduce poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition as well as narrowing the gender gap in education.
