This bulletin provides information on price changes for the most commonly consumed staples and their potential impacts on the cost of the basic food basket.

This case study is conducted to provide an update on the effects of the global economic crisis in Bangladesh, as a follow-up of the rapid assessment undertaken in March 2009. It aims at understanding how households are currently coping with the effects of the global financial crisis at a time when global economic growth is firming up.

The Government of Bangladesh and its partners continue to maintain and expand the social safety net system designed to address mainly transient food insecurity and support social sectors.

This case study is part of a series of WFP country case studies to elicit how the global financial crisis is manifested in Bangladesh at macro-economic level as well as how the macro-level impacts are manifested on households’ living conditions.
