As the harvest begins in Burkina Faso, beneficiaries of WFP's Cash for Assets activities are reaping the benefits of work done earlier in the year to improve rice production. New agricultural techniques and better roads are helping to increase what farmers can grow and sell, as well as improving livelihoods in a region where malnutrition and food insecurity rates are high.

On 14 August, a reforestation campaign was launched in the village of Cissin in Burkina Faso's Yatenga Province. The launch was organized by the Association Formation Développement Ruralité (AFDR), the NGO which is leading the reforestation campaign and is one of WFP's partners in the North region. Participants in the reforestation campaign will receive cash transfers from WFP as part of the Cash for Assets programme.

WFP provides take-home rations of maize and sorghum to 11,000 primary school girls in the Sahel Region of Burkina Faso to keep them in school. This year, nine girls were recognized by the local Government for having the highest marks in the region.
