World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Can using fortified rice in WFP's school meals programme be the game changer in the fight against malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, particularly among primary school-aged children? A nine-month study to be conducted in 20 schools in Cambodia's Kampong Speu province is set to give us the answer.

 A high-level Chinese mission sees first-hand the difference that the school feeding programme makes in the lives of poor and vulnerable children in Cambodia.

A high-level delegation from LG in South Korea recently visited Prey Veng Province in Cambodia to witness the impact of their three-year support to the communities participating in WFP’s Food-for-Assets programmes. The delegation was led by Young-Kee Kim, Executive Vice-President and Chief Relations Officer of the LG Group and their Corporate Social Responsibility Team accompanied by Monica Marshall, WFP Global Head of Private Partnerships and Edith Heines, WFP Cambodia Deputy Country Director.

A senior Brazilian delegation has recently visited World Food Programme flood response operations in Cambodia which have received generous support from the Government of Brazil. The delegation was led by H.E. Ambassador Paulo Cesar Meira de Vasconcellos accompanied by H.E. Dr. Nhim Vanda, Senior Minister and First Vice President of the National Committee for Disaster Management, Edith Heines, WFP Cambodia Deputy Country Director and Bill Pennington, Assistant Country Director for international NGO CARE.

WFP Cambodia’s Food for Assets (FFA) programme helps poor, food-insecure households to cope with potential disaster by providing off-season labour opportunities to develop or rehabilitate community assets, in return for much-needed food. WFP’s Polly Egerton visited one such project recently.
