WASHINGTON – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has been awarded US$81 million in food commodities from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to support meals in the classroom for children in the developing world.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Seattle, USA – PATH, the UN World Food Programme (WFP), and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) announced today a three-way partnership to test the impact of fortifying the rice distributed through food assistance programs in Cambodia using PATH’s Ultra Rice® fortification technology, a means for bridging micronutrient deficiencies and preventing malnutrition in rice-consuming communities.

On 17 August 2011 at the Office of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Deputy Prime Minister Keat Chhon, Minister for Economy and Finance, with Mr. Jean-Pierre de Margerie, World Food Programme Country Representative, Kingdom of Cambodia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the contribution from the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) to the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) for five years from 2011 to 2015.
