Food Assistance to CAR Refugees in Northern DRC
Since 2013, WFP has been providing food assistance to more than 62,000 refugees from Central African Republic (CAR) in DRC. In Equateur, where most of the CAR refugees are accommodated, WFP is currently experiencing immense logistical challenges in supplying food to the refugee camps. Equateur is an isolated northern province with limited roads and transport infrastructure. Water levels in the Oubangui River have dropped significantly during the dry season (January-May), slowing the speed of barges that supply food to the camps. Another important supply route for goods to Equateur is through Bangui, the capital of CAR, but, at the time of writing in March, this was either partially or totally blocked.
