Emergency Assistance to People affected by Hurricane Sandy in Cuba

This Operation has been modified as per Budget Revision 1 (see below).

Sandy is likely to be eastern Cuba’s single most destructive hurricane in the past 50 years. The damage has been described by official sources as “substantial”, hurting rural and major urban areas. Given the hurricane’s impact on food availability in the country, the Government has accepted a WFP contribution for the most affected area. Through this IR-EMOP WFP is providing 793 mt of rice, beans and vegetable oil in order to complement the regular food ration that continues to be distributed by the government. Furthermore, 15 Wiik halls are being provided with the aim of guaranteeing the storage of food while government capacities in this sector recover.
