DJIBOUTI – To help combat food insecurity in the Arta region of Djibouti, U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti Geeta Pasi led a food distribution to 200 vulnerable families today. Those families received vital food rations that were contributed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), as part of a substantial donation of food for 2013, and distributed by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

DJIBOUTI – The U.S. Agency for International Development’s Office of Food for Peace has released the first tranche of its US$4 million contribution in 2013 to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for the Republic of Djibouti.  This emergency assistance is destined primarily to assist rural populations who are experiencing crisis levels of food insecurity due to drought.

DJIBOUTI – In a “ground-breaking” ceremony yesterday, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) – with the generous support of the Government of Djibouti, the Government of Canada and the Government of Finland – officially launched the first phase of building a humanitarian logistics base that will improve storage and transport of humanitarian assistance across the Horn of Africa.

The number of hungry people in the Horn of Africa is growing and WFP aims to assist 5.2 million people as drought, rising food and fuel prices and conflict take their toll.  More and more people need help in the Horn and we’re now on high alert over the impact of the March to May long rains.

JOHANNESBURG – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today welcomed a generous donation of R3 million (US$400,000) from the Government of South Africa, which will help the agency to feed thousands of hungry families in the Horn of Africa region.

ROME – Spain’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Soraya Rodriguez Ramos, today announced a donation of €75 million (US$112m) to the United Nations World Food Programme in response to the critical hunger situation in the Horn of Africa.
