World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

NAIROBI – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is appealing for urgent funding to continue providing food assistance as planned to more than 550,000 refugees in Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps in northern Kenya

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) honours World Food Day (16 October) by reaffirming its dedication to work with communities, civil society, governments and the private sector to end hunger in our lifetimes.

Nairobi – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes a US$1 million (about Ksh. 85 million) contribution from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support people still suffering from the effects of the devastating drought in 2011... WFP is using the donation to support recovery and resilience building activities in arid districts including Turkana.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a contribution of wheat flour from the Russian Federation worth US$2 million (about Ksh. 170 million) to provide assistance to vulnerable people in Kenya, including the drought-affected poor and refugees.

The Republic of Zambia has donated food commodities worth about US$100,000 (about Ksh. 8.3 million) to support refugees in camps at Dadaab in northeastern Kenya.

The World Food Programme (WFP) in Kenya has received dates worth US$ 671,000 (about Ksh 56 million) from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the refugees in Kakuma and Dadaab camps. The 200 metric tonnes (mt) are part of a 4,000 mt donation of dates to WFP programmes in various countries.

The government of Japan has contributed an additional US$ 6.5 million to the United Nation World Food Programme (WFP) to help the agency feed nearly 3.4 million vulnerable people in Kenya, including school children, refugees, and the drought-affected poor. The new contribution brings Japan’s total support for WFP’s food assistance programmes in Kenya to US$ 22.9 million (about Ksh 1.9 billion) in the last 12 months.

ROME – A 13-year-old Kenyan girl and her classmates will join the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) live via video technology tomorrow, opening a rare window on life in one of the poorest districts of Nairobi.

Renowned recording artist Sami Yusuf is to donate the proceeds of a new single to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in support of humanitarian operations in the drought-hit Horn of Africa.

Josette Sheeran, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), is today (21 July) travelling to Somalia to view WFP’s ongoing operations to feed vulnerable and hungry people affected by severe drought and conflict. Sheeran will return to Nairobi, Kenya this evening.
