WFP ensures that those in need do not go hungry. This month food was distributed to one of the most remote areas of Nicaragua, the Miskito communities. It is a region that few have visited. Its people are natives to the Caribbean coast, retain their own language, ancestral traditions, and communal organization.

WFPs logistics team held a workshop for cooperative members in the departments of Jinotega, Matagalpa and Estelí. The training focused on the handling and storage of foods in their warehouses.

Martha Mautute is a 36 year old single woman from the town of Jalapa, Nueva Segovia. Martha has been an active member of the smallholder farmer’s organization Nuevo Horizonte (New Horizons) for the past 5 years. While speaking with her she adamantly expressed how blessed and happy she is because of the opportunity she has to now share new knowledge with other women of her community.

The United Nations System in Nicaragua, presented the UNDAF United Nations Development Action Framework (UNDAF) for Nicaragua, which has a budget of 292.5 million dollars, to be run on the period 2013-2017.

The United Nations budgeted an amount of $ 292 504 773 for development assistance for the period od 2013-2017, said Pablo Mandeville, UN Resident Coordinator in Nicaragua. Mandeville said that the funds will be directed to health and safe drinking water, education, nutrition, incentive for development and humanitarian assistance, among other areas.
