World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

“We never knew this rain would make us homeless – we are literally left with nothing,” says Shabbir Ahmed, a father of nine forced to flee the worst floods anyone in Punjab can remember. WFP is providing food to thousands of families like his as they wait for the waters to recede.

Dane Novarlic, who recently arrived in flood-wracked Pakistan, explains what his team is up against and why their mission is so important.

The floods in Northwestern Pakistan have befallen one of the most volatile areas in the world where over one million people were already in flight from turmoil along the Afghan border. WFP Pakistan Spokesman Amjad Jamal explains what these floods have meant for them and what WFP is doing to help the scores of other people affected.

Five people working for WFP were killed in what local police are describing as a suicide bomb attack at the WFP offices in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on Monday. A number of injured are being treated in hospital.

Zeenat is going home. After three months in a camp for displaced people, she and her family are returning to the town they fled amid the recent upsurge in fighting in northern Pakistan. They don’t know what they will find. But whatever it is, WFP food rations will help them face it and begin again.

Mohammed Gulab and his family are among the relatively few Pakistanis who have been able to return to their homes in the northern regions affected by fighting over the last year. WFP is now distributing food to them and other returnee families so they can begin again.
