As one of the 38 countries to achieve anti-hunger targets for 2015, Peru has a lot to celebrate. In fact, the country has managed to reduce its number of hungry people by half in the last 15 years.


Even though the GDP per capita is over US$4,500, there is still 10 million people (36.2% of total population) living under poverty line, and almost three million (12.6%) in extreme poverty because of the high level of inequity. At rural level, the extreme poverty is more than the double of the national average (25, 7%). en español
