Manila -- In time for the typhoon season, World Food Programme has donated US$130,000 of logistics equipment to the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Region 13 (Caraga) and Region 11 (Davao Oriental) field offices.

MANILA, Philippines - International donors on Wednesday stressed the need for the Philippines to continue investing in programs that would enhance its disaster preparedness capabilities.
Praveen Agrawal, country director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Philippines, said such investments are important since disasters worsen the living conditions of the poor, many of whom are undernourished.

BAGUIO CITY—Climate change has become a popular phrase that is often used by government officials to explain the intensity and frequency of natural calamities that hit communities in the country.
But making the public understand the concept and science of extreme weather patterns, and the impact the state of the environment has on climate, should be a priority to make communities more resilient against natural calamities, a United Nations official said here last week.

In continuing support to the Philippine Government’s efforts to build the resilience of vulnerable communities threatened by natural disasters and climate-related risks in the country, the United States, through the US Agency for International Development/Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance, has allocated another US$5.5 million (PhP 184.3 million) to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
