World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

SORSOGON CITY -- United Nations World Food Program project coordinator Michelle McGonagle will be in Sorsogon today for a three-day visit, institutionalizing the Disaster Preparedness and Response Program in the province to build resilient communities, boosting the capacity of its government, academe and non-government partners.

DAVAO CITY -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development XI is expecting the arrival of additional rice assistance from the World Food Programme for Typhoon Bopha affected communities. 

MANILA, Philippines - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has given an additional P164 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for Typhoon Pablo victims in the Philippines.

The provincial government of Davao Oriental (Philippines) and the World Food Program (WFP) have started briefing farmers on the cash-for-work program, in an effort to cover initially 800 hectares of rice farms in Cateel, Baganga and Boston municipalities. Sharon Andrea Lumpias, cash and voucher officer of the WFP, said a farmer could work for 10 days, under the program, on a one-hectare rice farm and would get P226 per day or 75 percent of the authorized minimum daily wage set by the Regional Tripartite Wage Regulatory Board.

COMPOSTELA VALLEY -– WFP has committed help to the provincial government of Compostela Valley after the devastation caused by super typhoon Bopha.
 

A month after Typhoon Bopha hit the southern Philippines, up to 1 million people need food assistance and thousands of others could be displaced for a second time, the United Nations says. (..) "Overall the need (for food assistance) is for about 800,000 to a million people across several regions," said Dipayan Bhattacharyya, head of food security with the World Food Programme (WFP) in the Philippines.

ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) Executive Director Said Faisal and ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management Head Adelina Kamal recently visited Davao City to handover 3,000 rice bags to the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development. The AHA Center provided USD100,000 to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to purchase the rice, which is part of ASEAN support to the Philippine Government’s Typhoon Bopha response. 

CATEEL, Davao Oriental — The provincial government here, in close coordination with the World Food Program have started on Wednesday the fourth round of massive distribution of relief goods in the three typhoon-ravaged towns of Boston, Cateel and Baganga this province.

Canada has provided more than P70 million (Cad$ 1.75million) as additional assistance to victims of typhoon ‘Pablo’ (Bopha) in the Philippines.

The Australian Government has increased its assistance to Php307 million (A$7.3 million) in response to the increasing humanitarian needs from Typhoon Pablo.
